Police

 

 

The Elk Grove Police Department is one of only 532 international accredited police agencies. There are 98 sworn officers, one community service officer, one social worker, 11 full-time and 12 par-time personnel providing field and clerical support services. In addition, there are 11 adult cross guards assisting school age students between home and school.

   

Fire

   

Fire protection and emergency ambulance services are provided by this full-time Department which consists of 107 personnel. Emergency services (including police) can be obtained by dialing 9-1-1. The Elk Grove Village Fire Department also conducts progressive Fire Prevention and Public Education programs and is nationally known for its industrial Pre-Fire Plan Program. The Fire Insurance Classification is two (2).

   

Engineering and Community Development::

   

The Department consolidates the independent operations of the Engineering and Building Departments and Industrial/Commercial Revitalization under the administrative direction of one Department Head. The Engineering Division is comprised of a 9-person staff. This Division is responsible for the preparation, review, and/or approval of design drawings for streets, water-mains, and sanitary and storm sewer systems. It is also responsible for the enforcement of the Subdivision Control Ordinance and for the field inspection of public improvement construction.

The Building Division consists of an 8-person staff charged with enforcing building, plumbing, electrical and building maintenance codes on all developments within the Village, in addition to enforcing the Zoning Ordinance.

   

Industrial/Commercial Revitalization

   

The Industrial/Commercial Revitalization activity was created for the purpose of overseeing the revitalization and continued growth of the commercial and industrial community through landscape, architecture, zoning and building code regulations, financial planning, traffic engineering and promotion of sound planning practices.  The Division consists of an Assistant Director of Community Revitalization working in concert with a Commission of 11 members and 2 Village Trustees.

   

Public Works

   

This Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Village vehicles and equipment and over 130 miles of Village streets. This includes the cleaning of streets and the removal of snow during the winter months. Other duties are the spraying, trimming, removal, and replacement of Village parkway trees as well as the repair, replacement, and installation of new traffic and street signs, and the maintenance of public grounds and the "urban forest."

The Public Works Department provides over seven (7) million gallons of potable Lake Michigan water daily to over 33,000 residents and approximately 3,600 industrial and commercial firms. The Department also maintains sanitary and storm sewer systems within the corporate boundaries of the Village. A total of 57 full-time and 9 part-time, as well as 19 seasonal personnel staff the Village's Public Works Department.

   

Finance

   

This Department receives all monies paid to the Village and makes all payments for expenditures incurred. The Department oversees a current operating budget of $49.8 million dollars to provide municipal services throughout the village.

This Department is also responsible for issuing all business, animal, and vehicle licenses. The issuance of a license is conditional upon compliance with all Village ordinances. There are 19 full-time and four (4) part-time personnel staffing the Finance Department.

   

Economic Development

   

Industrial and Commercial development efforts are coordinated by the Village's Economic Development Officer. The Economic Development Officer handles all the retention and attraction activities provided by the Village. Promotional and educational materials are available through this office.

Health Services

   

The Health Services Division is responsible for the protection of the public health of all Village residents. It is the Health Coordinator's duty to enforce all ordinances relating to the protection of public health. The Department's full-time staff includes the Health Coordinator, two full-time Sanitarians, one Community Health Nurse, and one full time and one part-time clerical employee.

The Board of Health is comprised of 12 members who have been appointed by the Mayor. Health Services aims at improving the quality of health in the Village with the involvement of the Board of Health and Village citizenry.

Services provided by the Health Department fall into three categories: personal health services, environmental health services, and recycling and solid waste.

Personal Health includes nursing services, blood donation programs, immunization clinics, TB clinics, flu clinics, and other health screening programs. Environmental Health includes community sanitation, food sanitation, water sampling, nuisance control, and animal cage availability.  Recycling on solid waste include community recycling programs and coordination of residential garbage services.

   

Community Service

   

Community Service is an office within the Elk Grove Village government which addresses social and human needs within the community. The office is staffed with a coordinator and a clerical person. It operates under the direction of the Community Service Board and the Village Manager's Office.

The Community Service Board is comprised of 13 members who have been appointed by the Mayor. Through the involvement of the Community Service Board and Village citizenry, Community Service aims at improving the quality of life in the Village.
